We use many gadgets and machines in our lives. Most probably, you are reading this text on a computer, smartphone or a tablet while sitting on a piece of furniture like a chair or a sofa. The room you are in would be having a light for illumination and fans or air-conditioners for cooling. From where did these things come from in the first place?
There must have been someone who made these things for the first time. Someone must have wanted to be able to work in the dark without the danger of fire from a candle. Someone else must have wanted cool air to blow on its own during hot summer. These people not only wished for such things but worked on creating them. They utilized available resources and technology of their times to build gadgets which solved their problems. They are the makers.
Being a maker is not just about creating great things but also contributing to the maker’s community. Makers have a philosophy of building upon and using the existing knowledge to reach the next step. This enables makers to make their stuff faster as they don’t always have to start from scratch. They don’t need to repeat the work done by someone else already. They can just use it to make something and their creation can be further improved by another maker.
A maker makes a far more crucial thing than the invention; a maker makes the future.
